Why we have a crush on this property

If you’re an architecture buff like I am, you may be able to tell when a home has the subtle touches of FLW, or Frank Lloyd Wright. His Prairie Style creations—with their airy, unfussy layouts—influenced designers for years to come, and continue to make their mark on architecture today.

In this condo for sale in San Francisco, FLW’s aesthetic is overwhelmingly present. That’s thanks to its former owner, Lois Davidson Gottlieb, who was a student and colleague of Wright. A lauded residential architect, Gottlieb was one of only a few women to be an apprentice under Wright at his Taliesin fellowship. (Gottlieb attended Taliesin West, Wright’s desert compound and architecture school in Scottsdale, Arizona.) Later, she published a book about her time spent with Wright in the ‘40s, called “A Way of Life: An Apprenticeship with Frank Lloyd Wright“.

So it makes sense that Gottlieb’s former condo in San Francisco’s Opera Plaza building has plenty of Wright hallmarks: custom walnut woodwork, lots of built-ins, and handcrafted wooden accents that even extend to the light fixtures. Craftsmanship is evident in the home’s unique storage solutions, while its not-overly-decorated vibe hearkens to Taliesin. The entire home is bright and sunny, and when the sun goes down, it can be warmed by the wood-burning fireplace in the living room.

It’s all steps from San Francisco’s central attractions, too, like City Hall, Japantown, and more. The home is listed by Dan Langford with Coldwell Banker Realty for $929,000.
