Why we have a crush on this property

It’s not every day a home built before the Revolutionary War hits the market. This circa 1750 Cape-style abode is a well-preserved antique for sale in Foster, Rhode Island. There’s a lot to admire about the red clapboard home, but the feature that jumps out immediately to me? Its price tag.

Listed for just under $300,000, the three-bedroom home commands $195 per square foot. (Compare that to a slightly smaller home in Brooklyn, for example, which asks $1,249 per square foot.)

Inside, the home’s kitchen and two bathrooms have been updated. The roof has recently been replaced, and the heating, septic, and electrical systems are up to date, too. Still, the place retains much of its centuries-old charm. You can see it in the wide-plank wood floors, beamed ceilings, and four stone fireplaces — it’s all “near museum-quality,” per the listing.

Outside, there’s a grassy one-acre yard with some shrubs and stonework. The 271-year-old Cape is listed by Adam Cardinal with HomeSmart Professionals for $299,900.
