Proof Planning Pays Off: A Bright, Cozy Home in Just 300 Square Feet
“My home is small but I feel so lucky to call it mine. It’s located in a small beach town within walking distance to some really great shops and restaurants,” describes Lauren Hunter, of her studio apartment.
Name: Lauren Hunter
Location: Coronado, California
Size: 300 square feet
Year Lived In: 6 years, renting
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bright, Feminine, Cozy
What is your favorite room and why? The living area, which is also my bedroom.
“Because of the small size of my home, I had to be intentional and thoughtful in the space planning and design process, so it truly is my happy place with only pieces that I love.”
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I’ve lived in San Diego for about 10 years and am originally from Palm Springs. I studied interior design and currently work for an amazing lifestyle and gift shop in San Diego, managing our orders and vendor relationships.
I love to entertain so it was important to have an open and inviting space. The living area was definitely a more challenging room to design with windows and doorways in three of the four walls, limiting what I could bring in for furniture and decor. The decision to add a love seat and arm chair was not taken lightly but I knew I wanted to give myself (and friends) another seating option other than the floor or bed.
Because of the small size of my home, I had to be intentional and thoughtful in the space planning and design process, so it truly is my happy place with only pieces that I love.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I definitely dream of having a balcony. We have amazing weather all year long and I would love to have a space to relax and dine outside.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last smaller thing I purchased was another plant and vessel from Pigment. I can never have too many! My last bigger purchase was the Elton Chair from West Elm in Luster Velvet Dusty Blush.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Take your time and be thoughtful in your selections. Do your research when shopping for the bigger pieces and always measure twice!
The kitchen is a separate room and consists of a small kitchenette, a couple of open shelves, and a few upper cabinets. There’s no counter space so Ikea was my best friend with their budget friendly kitchen carts.
Thanks, Lauren Hunter!
