Dessert is arguably the most important part of the holiday season — besides charcuter-wreaths and festive cocktails, of course. Aldi, our favorite German budget grocer, has some delicious options to add to your party spread this year, including gooey hot cocoa rolls and gluten-free donuts. However, this new holiday item certainly takes the cake — literally!

Aldi is now selling a frozen Specially Selected Germany Luxury Cake in three flavors: Cherry Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate Mousse, and Marzipan Mousse. Each cake is layered with cake, mousse, toppings, and glazes that make for a rich addition to your dessert selection. The Cherry Chocolate Chip is infused with chocolate chip and cherry mousse, before being drenched in a cherry glaze. The Triple Chocolate Mousse is a layered cake with milk, bittersweet, and white chocolate mousse with chocolate-coated crispy rice, topped with a chocolate glaze. Lastly, the Marzipan Mousse flavor is a layered golden cake with marzipan and almond infused mousse mixed with chocolate and covered with even more marzipan (for the non-chocolate lovers).

According to the package, you should keep the cake frozen until just before you’re ready to serve. Remove the packaging and thaw and room temperature for three or four hours if you’re serving the whole cake or two to three hours if you’re serving a slice. Once the cake is completely defrosted, store in the refrigerator for up to three days. Important to note: the packaging also says to avoid thawing the cake in the microwave.

The cakes are currently retailing for $8.99 and like most seasonal desserts, are only available for a limited time. Time to have your cake and eat it too!
