Type of Home: Apartment
Years lived in: 3 years, renting

It’s not hard for New York City-based interior designer Alvin Wayne to pinpoint what it is that he relishes about his 800-square-foot apartment, located in Long Island City. “The thing I love most about my apartment is the layout and the windows,” he writes. “The layout because I have a separate dining area or office, and the windows simply because of the light and the view.” He’s rented this space for three years, and in that time it’s seen a few iterations. When Apartment Therapy toured the space a couple of years ago, it featured the now-signature faux concrete wallpaper and neon sign that still exist in the home. But other glam changes have been added to achieve Alvin’s “organic modern” style, including lots of low-profile, curvy furniture that make the entire space feel comfy and luxe.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Organic modern

Inspiration: My biggest inspiration comes from nature, whether it’s plant life or materials. I’m really inspired by the world around me as well, from music, art, fashion, people, and places.

Favorite Element: My favorite thing in my home are my coffee tables, primarily because I designed them with Balducci Marmi, a company based in Italy. I designed these nesting marble tables to be low since all of my furniture is low profile, and in contrasting marbles.
