Alexa, help me grow my garden. National Garden Week, the first full week of June, takes root tomorrow, June 7 — and a device that many of you likely already own could actually serve as the ultimate gardener’s assistant. Amazon devices, including the Amazon Echo and/or Dot, have existing skills and features to help both amateur and seasoned gardeners grow lush gardens and lawns this summer. How? With good ol’ Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant; that’s how!

Much like pet adoptions and sourdough starter packs, gardening bloomed during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; garden retailers reported a major increase in sales amid quarantine. And with studies citing the positive impact that gardening has on mental wellbeing and stress relief, it does not appear that the trend will disappear any time soon. With these stats in mind, check out the tips below on how to get the most out of your Alexa devices this gardening season, courtesy of the folks at Amazon.

Tip 1: Not sure where or how to start? Enable expert advice. For first-time gardeners not quite sure where and how to start, enable Amazon’s Carmen Johnston Gardens Skill feature to receive free home decor and gardening tips from the expert. Simply click the “enable” button and the feature could be accessed on all your Alexa devices.

Tip 2: Find delicious recipes with your garden haul. Amazon Echo devices come with a plethora of fresh recipes that involve herbs grown at home, such as basil or cilantro. A few recipes shared by Alexa include Guru’s Cilantro Lime Pesto Pasta, Basil Pesto, Raspberry Basil Limoncello Cocktail, and Strawberry Basil Mojito

Tip 3: Set reminders to water your plants. The Echo Dot makes it easy to set reminders and create routines with Alexa, ensuring that you never forget to water those gardens and keep them thriving. The Rachio Smart Sprinkler System could also elevate your watering routine; it could be connected to your Amazon device, allowing you to ask Alexa to turn on the sprinkler system for you.

Tip 4: Shop for gardening supplies. Alexa, order my gardening supplies. With Alexa’s existing shopping and delivery features on Echo devices, you could stock up on gardening essentials without ever having to leave your house. Go on, fellow gardeners — bloom with these tips.
