I wouldn’t say I’m normally someone who thinks too much about bath mats. I view them as an item that’s more function over form; since my New York City apartment bathroom is so tiny, the bath mat never becomes the main attraction the way a shower curtain does. I happened to notice that my existing mat was looking a little ratty, though, and decided it was time for an upgrade.

Since I’m short on floor space, I knew my options were limited. For the sake of time and ease, I turned to Amazon and ran a search for small bath mats. Yes, shopping on the site can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, so it’s good to go in having a general sense of what might appeal to you. I know teak and stone bath mats are all the rage these days, but I personally prefer the feel of a soft, plush style, so I decided to focus specifically on those.

I was thrilled when I landed upon this adorable green and white checkered bath mat that measures 24 by 16 inches, a perfect fit for my bathroom. While I’m normally drawn to blues over greens, my shower curtain is a deep green, so I thought I’d stick within the same shade. This particular print is also a bit trendier than I’d normally go for (checks are everywhere these days!), but I figured the bathroom was the perfect place to play with a look I wouldn’t normally embrace, given that it’s tucked away from the rest of my apartment.

The price tag on this bath mat also won me over instantly. At $19, it’s an incredible buy, and with hundreds of five-star ratings, it’s become an Amazon shopper favorite.

I, like the reviewers, appreciate how the bath mat has a grippy backing, which prevents it from sliding around on my tile floors. The mat is also super soft underfoot, and it dries quickly, too (there’s nothing worse than a bath mat that doesn’t absorb water well!).

If you’re like me and need a quick bathroom upgrade, add this piece to your cart, stat. You can thank me later!
