Pretty shower with black tile, white shower curtain pulled aside

There were several aspects of our apartment that my husband and I loved when we first moved in. One of those was the blacktiled shower with black grout which looked more modern than our previous apartment’s porcelain tub, plus it seemed like it would be easier to clean and maintain given its forgiving color. While I still love my shower and consider it a sanctuary, having hard water has made it a bit of a challenge to preserve. Plus, it was turning my dark grout white!

After trying an array of cleaning products and avoiding certain shower products like soap bars to get rid of the hard water buildup that forms in my shower over time, I decided to try a different approach. I was cleaning my shower floor frequently so despite the hard water stains, I knew my shower was clean. However, the white chalky scale made my shower floor look dirty. I figured there could be something to at least disguise the stains if I couldn’t get rid of them.

I came across this grout pen on Amazon, and at this point, I would try just about anything to make sure my shower looked and felt clean (especially if I was having an overnight guest). To make sure it would work as I hoped, I first used it the morning after scrubbing my shower floor and letting it dry overnight. I lightly shook the pen with the cap still on and pressed the cotton tip gently onto the grout a few times to release the paint.

As soon as I started using it, I was truly impressed. The pen glided on with ease, much like using a permanent marker, and covered each grout line with a dark, thick coating in just one pass. Although the label recommended letting the pen dry for up to six hours, I decided to leave it for eight to make sure it stayed on.

Although using this pen on my entire shower floor takes some time and precision, the result makes it all worth it. The pen completely changes the look of my shower floor and makes it look not only clean, but new. The paint of the pen lasts for a couple of months, with weekly cleanings, and I’m able to use the pen again at least twice before it runs out or before the cotton tip becomes too degraded. For the price and effectiveness, this grout pen is my ultimate recommendation for those with black grout tiles anywhere in their home.
