Every once in a while I come across an organizer that seriously makes my heart skip a beat. It’s rare, so when it happens I have to take a minute to tell you guys about it. Earlier this year, I waxed poetic about this $10 flatware organizer for narrow drawers, which I’ll still talk about to anyone who will listen. And just a few weeks ago I came across this wire under-shelf basket … in copper!

Yes, I’ve seen under-shelf baskets before. But they’re usually cheap, plastic-coated wire or industrial-in-a-bad-way mesh steel. This one has a copper finish, which means it doesn’t have to be hidden behind a cabinet door. In fact, it just begs to be on display.

So instead of hanging the basket from the second shelf of a cabinet (which actually does eat up space from your first shelf), or hiding it away in a pantry, you can hang it from the bottom of an open shelving situation. (If you don’t have open shelving, you can still use this—it would just have to be on the inside of the cabinet, as the arms would keep the cabinet doors from closing all the way.) I currently have one hanging with some of my cloth napkins and a few tea towels. Having these things out makes them easy to access and I like that they add a pop of color to the rest of the kitchen. And the basket magically creates shelf space out of thin air. With my kitchen linens in a new home, I had a free drawer to fill to will other odds and ends.

It won’t work in my kitchen, but I was also thinking this rack would be great to hang from a shelf over a sink (if you have one) to use as a makeshift Finnish drying cabinet.

What do you think? What would you store in this if you have one for your kitchen?
