Peek Inside Artist Angela Blehm’s ‘Pop Art Meets Postmodern’ Home
Artist Angela Blehm has a style that’s uniquely hers—and one that’s garnered her a lot of fans. That pop-art-meets-postmodern vibe isn’t limited to her work, but is apparent in her home as well.
Not one to shy away from bold color and patterns, Blehm’s home is a master class in mixing all of the above that results in a fun and creative space that packs in the personality and showcases her art.
Some fun takeaways from her space? Wallpaper on the ceiling is a great idea, primary colors can be chic, and if you have the space, a bistro table can definitely be used as a nightstand.
Blehm, who is a top-selling artist on home decor site Chairish, now has a new furniture line with the brand. They have partnered with Blehm and furniture startup Cloth & Company to create a home decor line that features some of her distinctive artwork. The exclusive line launched last week with five fabric options across six different pieces, including an ottoman, cube, curtains, settee, skirted chair, and a throw pillow. Prices start at $135 and go up to $1,456.
Blehm opened up about her style and inspiration:
How would you describe your aesthetic?
I gravitate to an aesthetic that is sophisticated yet playful—full of color, wonder, and sculptural silhouettes.
What inspires your work?
My art is a manifestation of my fascination with fashion, art history, architecture, and daydreams from the mundane.
What is it like moving in to a new media (from art to textile design)? What was hard and what was fun? What surprised you?
I secretly have wanted to dive into furniture design for a long time so this was a perfect opportunity to make the jump. I found the process immeasurably fun—so many variations with pattern and colorways to play with! Mashing up the fine art with the decorative art for pattern making seemed to come naturally from my lifelong obsession with decor. I have loved shopping and selling on Chairish for years now because of their chic, easy shopping platform. The idea of mixing in some new, artist-designed pieces to complement their vintage pieces ones really excited me.
