I Fell in Love with Anthropologie’s New “Covecore” Headboard
Leave it to Anthropologie to take an on-trend item and add an extra-stylish twist that makes it feel brand-new again.
Case in point: Upholstered headboards have been all over my Pinterest feed for months now, and I’m not even close to getting tired of them. I even DIYed a headboard myself just a few months ago. I thought I’d seen every iteration there was to see, until I stumbled upon the Gia Francois Tapestry Headboard while browsing Anthropologie online — and it was pretty much love at first sight.
What Is the Gia Upholstered Headboard?
The Gia Headboard from Anthropologie is a classic design — except that it has two folding panels on the sides. It’s reminiscent of a vintage vanity mirror, with two “wings” at either end on hinges. These can either fold in for a cozy, secluded feel, or out for a dramatic extra-wide profile.
It comes in two sizes (queen and king) and three colors (two classic performance linen blends, and the one that first caught my eye, in Anthropologie’s new signature Francois Tapestry print). I love anything Anthropologie makes in this tapestry print (and they do make just about everything, from couches to dressers). You can be sure your bed would be the focal point of any space with such a bold-yet-timeless print.
Like all of the brand’s upholstered furniture, it also has a kiln-dried hardwood frame for extra durability — and, perhaps my favorite part, it works with any bed frame! This headboard doesn’t actually attach to your bed directly, but rather a French-cleat system allows it to be mounted directly on the wall for extra stability. I’ve installed my own headboard the same way, and it’s held up great so far.
What We Love About It
This piece is unique mostly for its trifold design. I’ve been seeing more and more of this style of upholstered bed frame, often called a “shelter” bed, where the ends of the headboard wrap inward to create more of a cozy, insulated feel; but I hadn’t yet seen one with the option to open or close the wings.
This summer, we named “covecore” the next big design trend; and I think the Gia Headboard is a perfect example of this. No alcove required here — fold the sides in and you get a nice little cozy nook for sleeping and reading, or keep them unfolded for a dramatic, luxurious look. You really can’t go wrong.
Although I just finished my own upholstered headboard DIY, I’d love to get my hands on this one — especially in that Francois Tapestry print! The “wow” factor is just unmatched, compared to everything else I’ve seen on the market (and trust me — I’ve seen a lot of headboards). I can’t wait to see if this trend will take off more widely.
