Name: Maggie Dillon Location: Raleigh, North Carolina My boyfriend and I just moved in together in this wonderful 1930s house that he has lived in for the past three years as he went through Law School. To say it has changed a little since I have moved in might be a understatement. Although we have a pretty tight budget, I think we’ve been able to create a welcoming home that reflects who we are. It also helps that the house has killer bones (like 10 foot ceilings!

Name: Kathy McGee and Matt McGee, their two children, and two golden retrievers Location: Franklin, Tennessee Size: 3,900 square feet Years lived in: 8 1/2 years Kathy has been in love with design ever since she got to choose her bedroom’s paint color in the 7th grade. Surrounded by that lavender, she read magazines and dreamt of being a writer. Many years later, she started the blog My Interior Life. After that, her design business was the next step.

Before & After: Dark Entry Goes Light & Bright
Dee’s new house was dark, having been painted chocolate brown with dark trim throughout. She decided to start at the beginning— and transform the entryway first. From Dee: About a year ago, my fiancé and I bought our first house together! While I was excited at finally having my very own home, I completely underestimated the amount of work involved in getting it to look like my “dream” home. Luckily for us, the changes have all been cosmetic so far.
