One thing you’ll find in many people’s bedrooms is the all-too-common “clothes chair” — a piece of furniture that plays host to clothes and accessories that are in between wears. The original intent for this chair — whether it’s a stool or an extra dining chair — is to be a spot to read or put on your shoes, but its purpose always eventually shifts to a clothing clutter magnet

But it’s time to bid adieu to this sad feature, thanks to the creativity of decor-obsessed creators on Instagram. Ditching the chair and making your clutter (clothes, throws, drying laundry, what have you!) look intentional is a better move when it comes to holistic bedroom design — and there’s one thing in particular that works (and looks!) better for upscale bedroom storage.

It’s Time to Bring Back Old-School Quilt Racks (See Why!)

“Although it was unexpected, this quilt rack solved my problem of not knowing what to do with this space for the past 10 months of living here!” Geevie Wood wrote in an Instagram caption about her quilt rack, which she purchased through Facebook Marketplace

“I was literally putting my robe on the floor because we don’t have hooks on our doors (yet).”

“This is so smart. Gotta love a clothes chair haha!” one person commented on Geevie’s post. Another added, “Oooooh great idea!!! Adding to my thrift/Marketplace search list.”

The quilt rack is such an ingenious combination of the power of a clothes chair and wall hooks, and so many people love just how different it is from traditional bedroom storage. “Omg thank you!!!! I have been searching for a solution for months, and nothing felt quite right!! This is the perfect fix,” another commenter wrote. “How clever!”

You can also find quilt racks new if you’re not having any luck sourcing one secondhand. Target sells a wooden version for just under $40, and it features three tiers of dowels for easy hanging.

Ebern Designs Chase Valet Clothes Stand
$83

If you’re trying to cut back on the clothing clutter, this two-tiered valet from Wayfair could help train your brain not to stack so much. It’s designed to hold two bath towels and a candle (or a mini mood lamp!), and its sleek metal frame gives the piece an updated touch that would work in contemporary spaces.

And Lowe’s has a version that has a bit more antique flair, just like the model Geevie sourced from Facebook Marketplace. It comes with three dowels for hanging and fun carved details in the wood frame that give it a traditional and classic look.

It’s time to elevate your bedroom’s look with a tool that turns mess into an intentional, gorgeous highlight. If you want to make your clutter look a bit better, it’s time to give quilt racks a try.
