Amy’s bathroom was suffering from over-matching-syndrome. It was basically the bathroom equivalent of having your dress match your purse, shoes, scrunchie, lipstick and phone case. With some lucky finds and a lot of work Amy was able to create a calm and cool bathroom, with just the right amount of color.

From Amy: My home is a 100 years old, and while the main floor and bedrooms had been recently renovated, the main bathroom hadn’t been touched in decades and was… pink.

Not just a little bit pink, but the tub, sink and toilet were pink ceramic. The tile was pink. The fake marble vanity top had pink streaks in it. But the absolute worst was the fact that the entire bathroom was carpeted dark pink. Yep, carpeted.

The biggest boon was the discovery of the cast iron tub at a local salvage yard. Not only is the enamel in great shape, it came with everything including the old shower curtains (which were discarded) and only cost $175. Which meant that instead of just a paint job, flooring, and some new lights, I could afford to make some serious changes to the bathroom.

Down came the tile and the carpet was torn out. The drywall along the back was repaired because the window in the shower had never been sealed properly. A divider wall at the foot of the tub was torn down, and the toilet moved to the end of the tub, where before there had been an insufficient and mildew-prone cupboard.

I picked a pale green, with a gray undertone for the paint, and painted the exterior of the tub to match. We installed wainscoting, and took advantage of the extra space with a wider, brighter vanity from IKEA. The tile is white hex with black diamonds and gray grout.

My Dad and I did all the work (with a helping hand from my brother-in-law to get that tub up the stairs), and it took three weeks and $2,500 to complete, but I adore it!

Thank you, Amy!
