This family room has one big virtue: its large size, but, as you can see, not a lot of effort has gone into making it an appealing space for the family to spend time in. Jacqueline Wheeler was hired to brighten it up and and bring it to its full potential. The result, which includes built-in bunks, a desk nook and plenty of seating, is a stunner:

From Jacqueline:

The goal for this project was to turn a dark, dated, unloved room into a bright, happy playroom for this modern family. We turned unused storage space into built-in bunk beds and created a nook for a desk. We pulled up the old carpet and had the concrete floor cleaned and sealed. We also pulled down the awful ceiling tiles and fluorescent lighting and finished the walls and ceiling with new sheetrock.
