Before and After: A Plain White Bathroom Gets a Greenery-Filled Upgrade

Charlotte Richards‘ mostly white bathroom didn’t have much in the way of personality. “It was perfectly functional but just a bit boring,” she writes. Moral of the story: It was time for a change.
Charlotte wanted “to make a statement with the room decor but without having to touch the fundamental shell of the bathroom,” she writes. So she painted the towel rail black, a bold contrast against the white tile walls, and gave the vanity cupboard many, many coats of green.
She also installed a faux living wall, which “creates a lot of impact but was actually very straightforward to do,” she writes. She used FEJKA panels, which come in 10.25-by-10.25-inch squares and run only $5 each (3 pounds for Charlotte, because she lives in the UK).
The last major bathroom project Charlotte decided to tackle was installing a new shower screen decal, and this turned out to be, in her own words, “the biggest drama.” “I decided to do it right at the end of the first week and then had awful trouble completely removing the original design and ultimately finding a solution to cover it up,” she writes. “Fortunately I’m happy with the finished result.” (You can see it reflected in her new round mirror, below.)
To continue the “urban jungle” theme, Charlotte picked up Marks & Spencer leopard print bath towels, mixed in more animal-themed decor, and filled the room with lots of big, lush greenery.
Charlotte ended up spending around 200 pounds on the bathroom makeover in total, and took around two weeks to complete the project. “I think it demonstrates that a very ordinary and plain bathroom can still pack a punch with a few statement pieces and the right accessories,” she writes.
