Each room in Lucas’ 495 square foot apartment in Argentina is designed around one color. When Lucas bought this pair of nightstands at an estate sale, they weren’t in their best condition. But, after some TLC and DIY, they not only got a fresh coat of paint and a bold color, they also became the inspiration for his bedroom’s color scheme.

From Lucas: When I found these nightstands, they were full of scratches and the wood tone wasn’t my favorite, but I loved their mid-century details and petite size.

I wanted to refinish them but didn’t know where to start, so I asked a DIY-savvy friend for help. We sanded them, patched the dents and gave them a few coats of paint. I’m not afraid of color so I chose this red called Amor by Alba. I liked that it’s not just red, it has a drop of white that prevents it from being too fast-foody.

The nighstands ended up being the starting point for my bedroom’s decor. I wanted a bright pop of color in my bedroom to act as an energy shot when I wake up. I chose to have a neutral headboard and bedding to go with them, and then I started adding red details here and there. I think the result is pretty energizing, don’t you think?
