Before & After: This Dorm Room Keeps the Fun in Functional
Sarah’s dorm room is fun, bright and youthful. By mixing bright colorful DIY projects with bright white minimalism, she made her space look larger — all without sacrificing personality.
From Sarah: As a junior in college, I had the opportunity to live in a single dorm room, and I couldn’t wait to start decorating. The goal was to make the dark 12′ X 8.5′ room more colorful and fun, but also feel open and inviting.
When I first entered college, I looked up lots of ideas for DIY projects and dorm decorating on my College Dorm Room Pinterest board, but I have since learned that the “less is more” approach really goes a long way in such a small space. I kept some of the DIY dorm decor projects from my first year of college, such as the acrylic painted donut hat and colorful tassel garland, but I also incorporated some fresh new pieces for a cleaner feel and accents of gold for a more elevated touch. I also live by Command ceiling hooks to hang fun garlands from my ceiling!
I love that this space is cozy and fun, yet functional! After a long day of engineering classes, study groups with friends, and student org meetings, I am always so happy to come home to this space of my own.
