When I knew that I was moving into a studio apartment, my first order of business — even before I started packing — was looking at inspiration photos. When you’re downsizing it’s an essential part of the process to try to glean some layout ideas and space-saving hacks. During my scrolling session, there was one item in particular that I kept spotting across a number of tiny spaces: IKEA’s KALLAX unit. There’s a reason it’s so popular: It’s the perfect piece for a small apartment, acting as a room divider and a storage solution.

Of course, it’s also useful in homes of all sizes and versatile enough to turn into a DIY project. Just look at this gorgeous kitchen island made out of KALLAX shelves! IKEA is known for affordable prices, so I wasn’t expecting to find a similar style for less — but leave it to Walmart to prove me wrong! Right now, you can save $30 and score a near-identical dupe of the 16-cube version. If you’re looking to get organized and transform your space, here’s why you should snag this beautiful piece while it’s on sale.

What Is the Better Homes & Gardens 16-Cube Storage Organizer?

You can fill up this organizer with pretty much anything, including books, lamps — the open design allows for cords to be plugged in — and plants. Each compartment measures 13″ x 15″ x 13″, so you have more than enough room to put your most treasured trinkets and decor on display. Each cube also supports up to 30 pounds, while the top panel can hold a whopping 100 pounds.

The unit is sleek and simple, which means you have the freedom to dress it up with the items you place in each section. If you want to keep the look more streamlined and decluttered, you can keep your items out of sight with storage cubes. In fact, the brand sells sets that are tailored to the shelving unit (and they’re on sale!).

In addition to the price being about $30 cheaper than the KALLAX, Better Homes & Gardens’ shelves come in two more colors. In addition to the gray and white, which have solid finishes, there are also dark and light brown, black, and rustic gray, which come in a wood-grain finish.

What Walmart Shoppers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4/5

“Cheaper than IKEA and comes in flat gray. I like that it’s not a wood texture; it’s just gray. Delivered to my home so that was nice and assembly is what you expect for a BH&G product from Walmart (has more quality than the generic Walmart brand of furniture). I did end up getting IKEA cubes due to their affordability, and they fit perfectly.” —Clay

“This product is absolutely worth what I paid for it and some. I love the wood. It’s nice and heavy and was not hard to put together at all. I thought I was gonna have a hard time putting it together by myself, but it was rather easy.” —WalmartCustomer

“I have now purchased three of these organizing shelves in various sizes, in the rustic gray tone. I love how beautiful they are, how LARGE the openings are, and I’m completely blown away with how sturdy they are! They have far exceeded my expectations.” —Momof3

For how many routes you can take with this shelving unit, a little over $100 is a bargain. If you need some extra inspiration, check out this post for some different ways to use it!
