My living room gets a lot of foot traffic. It has to contend with day-to-day use, family visits, and the dog running around at all times. Our striped area rug is one of the focal pieces of the room, but its off-white color was turning grayer as we spent more time using it. I am a longtime fan of BISSELL’s Pet Stain Eraser Powerbrush for spot-cleaning messes, but when it came to longer cleaning sessions that covered more ground, all we had was an old vacuum that’s only good for carpet; it wouldn’t do. Needing a change (and a good way to clean the living room rug), I jumped at the chance to try the BISSELL Crosswave X7 to see if it would do the trick.

The Crosswave X7 is a rechargeable multi-surface cleaner that’s ideal for pet owners, which made it perfect for our home. The vacuum came in two separate pieces upon arrival, and all I had to do was snap the handle into the base before charging it up for the first time. The charging dock has space for an extra roller and a bottle of multi-surface pet cleaning solution, both of which come in the box with the vacuum itself. The roller is soft with bristles throughout to help scrub the floor, and the vac comes with two so that you can continue cleaning without interruption when one needs a wash.

Using the BISSELL Crosswave X7is simple. Just fill the tank at the top with the floor-cleaning solution and water mixture (one bottle of cleaning solution is good for two uses). A tank at the bottom of the vacuum holds all the dirty water that gets sucked up as the Crosswave washes the floor. I usually consider emptying vacuums a necessary evil, but emptying and cleaning the Crosswave X7’s dirty tank wasn’t so bad! It comes apart easily, so I didn’t have to fuss and fight with it to get all the gunk out. And the hair filter is a genius feature that allowed me to simply lift out all the pet hair rather than have it mixed up in the mess. The vac also has a self-cleaning mode, so you can flush out any leftover bits between uses.

I knew this machine would work well on hardwood floors (which it definitely does), but I was more skeptical about my rug. When I used the BISSELL Crosswave X7 on it for the first time, I could see a difference immediately! It captured all of the crumbs, dirt, dust particles, and more that had collected over (tbh) months. I tested it out on a small part of the rug at first, but soon I pushed the couch against the wall and decided to clean the whole thing. The fact that the Crosswave is cordless gave me so much more freedom to clean in any direction I needed to, and the machine ran for about half an hour before needing another charge. That gave me plenty of time to go over the 8′ x 10′ rug without racing against the clock. There’s even a TURBO PET mode that increases the suction for a deeper clean.

I still can’t believe how great my rug looks after using the BISSELL Crosswave X7. My parents came to visit and complimented it as if it was brand new. I had my reservations, but I’m so glad I tried it out. I’ve fallen in love with my favorite rug all over again.
