There’s a color combination I’ve been seeing pop up in bedroom after bedroom recently. From transitional to eclectic to bohemian style, it seems to be the kind of combo that works with any decor look. And considering one half of the pair is very popular (like, the most popular), it’s not surprising that the trend is starting to swing in this direction. What is delightful is the fact that that they just might be the most agreeable color choices for a bedroom — they’re both bold and relaxing. Could this updated version of the classic combo be perfect for yours?

→ Bold blue + crisp white

In recent house tours, I’ve noticed blue-walled bedrooms, offset with a big splash of white in the space; it’s a modern way to do a classic color combination.

It’s a fresh look that doesn’t overwhelm, as it’s the perfect balance between saturated and serene. Using a rich, dark blue adds lots of drama to the room, but because it’s a cool color it can also induce relaxation and create a calming environment.

Pairing a saturated blue with lots of clean, crisp white reinforces the classic feel of both hues. And it’s a way to get a lot of white (also relaxing) into your bedroom, without having to resort to an minimal, monochromatic sleep space.

And because the blue + white combo isn’t as dramatic/harsh as a more traditional black and white look, you can introduce more colors into the mix without feeling like you’re breaking some strict two-color only rule. Blue is the color of the sky, of the seas, and plenty of other things in nature. So it’s only natural that many colors would effortlessly blend with a blue and white base.
