Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: The house was built in the 1940s and is not far from Hamilton’s industrial section. There is a lot of smoke and black powder in the air, and I wanted to create an opposite environment inside my home. I began with painting the walls bold, saturated colors and added several found, or thrifted furniture pieces, which I also painted. My goal is to surround myself with as much uplifting colorful energy as possible! I am a full-time artist making colorful hard-edge abstract paintings. I see the home as an extension of the artwork, where I can immerse myself inside the pieces.

I’m not afraid of of the spectrum. In fact I celebrate it in all aspects of life! From art to food, music to clothes, everything is an intensely flavored rainbow. My home is no exception. I like to buy or find old furniture pieces and paint them bright colors and give them a new life. It also serves as a way to inject chromatic joy into the space.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Colorful play palace

What is your favorite room and why? I love my front room because it has the most sunlight. I have my sofa, many plants, and a vibraphone in there to keep me stimulated. I didn’t grow up with TV and learned from a young age to create my own entertainment. Usually that was through artwork and music-making and this room is an example of my interest in the two.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? My parents gave me a vibraphone during the Covid lockdown. They’ve had it for years and thought it would be a fun instrument for me to explore. I love it! It has a warm, soothing sound, which is perfect for groggy mornings.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Be authentic to who you are! Rules don’t really matter, especially if they are going to cause you stress. Be you!
