I Tried This Simple $15 Trick That Instantly Made My Curtains Look So Cute and Expensive
Bows have dominated home design for the past two years — and while some might say the trend has been overdone or worn out its appeal, I believe this decorative detail will always have a time and place. Whether strategically placed in an unexpected spot or scaled down in decor form, bows can add a touch of soft femininity and charm to any space.
I especially love the idea of bows in my daughter’s room, and while browsing online recently I came across the most adorable bow-adorned drapes. Petite ribbons were affixed near the top of each panel and added a subtle romantic detail to the otherwise simple design. But the curtains already hanging in my daughter’s bedroom were still in perfect shape, and splurging on new ones felt unnecessary and wasteful.
Instead, I decided to DIY the look by adding bows to her existing drapes. The result gave my daughter’s space the touch of charm and whimsy I was hoping for — without the guilt of replacing her existing curtains or blowing our budget.
I opted for pre-made bows in a dusty rose color from Amazon that came with convenient twist ties. The muted pink hue added just enough contrast against the neutral curtain panels while harmonizing with the room’s existing colors.
Rather than attaching the bows to the curtains themselves, I used the twist ties to fasten them to the bottom of each curtain ring. This strategy allows the bows to hang slightly over the top edge of the curtains, giving a near identical look to the drapes I initially spotted online. It was nearly effortless — I just secured the twist tie around the ring, and I was done!
Although the bows I used were inexpensive (less than $15 for a set of 36!) you could recreate this look for even less by making ones from ribbon you already own. Simply thread a twist tie through the back of each handmade bow and fasten it to the curtain rings. You can further personalize this project by adjusting the bow size or color to match your decor, or leave extra-long tails for an even softer, more ethereal effect.
