This Retro Pattern Is Back, Better Than Ever, and Ready to Take Over Your Living Room

Once a hallmark of nautical design and a staple of retro beach clubs, cabana stripes have finally come into their own. And we’re not talking about nautical patio awnings or loungers. No longer relegated to poolside spaces , this classic staple has graduated to a modern form that’s now available in a wide variety of color ways.

Last year, Ash NYC, a design firm and real estate development/staging company, gave us the pillow chair, channeling the Italian Riviera in the ’60s all the while offering a contemporary take on the pattern. We spotted cabana stripes on the ceilings (and matching banquette seating) in this exotic home in Tangier pictured above as well as in this too-good-for-words home in Argentina. And as they say: Three makes a trend.

Taking a cue from these examples, along with a few of our favorite spots around the world—the aptly titled Cabana Cafe at the Beverly Hills Hotel comes to mind—we rounded up some stylish essentials to help you embrace this look with effortless flair.
