When California natives Mindy and Cameron Briar decided to relocate to the East Coast, they didn’t know much about the other side of the country. Owning a camper was a dream the husband and wife shared, so they decided to make it come true as a way to explore their new region.

With respective careers as a photographer and IT programmer, Mindy and Cameron are afforded a decent amount of flexibility to work remotely. They purchased a 2019 Forest River Wildwood RV to travel the country and take beautiful photos along the way. With a background in interior design, Mindy needed a place that she could turn into a beautiful home. She loved the Wildwood’s open floor plan that provided a relatively blank slate.

“It’s really a house that moves with you,” she notes. “We bring our dogs along for our travels and even have Wag come along the way, and it’s half the price of a hotel.”

The ability to really live on the road guided the Briars’ choice of camper. They wanted lots of windows to let in light and views well as a functional kitchen.

“It’s the epitome of glamping,” Mindy adds. “The camper is really modern. There’s a fireplace, center island, and huge closets. It’s just us for now, so we opted out of a bunk-bed option.”

For about $22,000, the couple found buying new was a better option than gutting an older model with pre-existing issues. Instead, Mindy used her eye for design to make an array of aesthetic improvements. She purchased fabric from JoAnn’s to hand sew new banquette covers and painted the entire interior. A mix of framed photographs of her work and family snapshots decorate the walls.

Many of the rugs and throw accents were sourced from Anthropologie for a traveled, modern-boho aesthetic. Huge back windows are the crown jewel, Mindy says, adding, “It really feels like a cross between indoor and outdoor living.”

Mindy photographs their travels for her blog and hopes to eventually publish a guide book of their destinations.

“As a photographer and self-proclaimed travel-a-holic, I live for beautiful scenery and charming towns,” she adds. “The travel trailer has allowed us to spend full weeks in the comfort of our own ‘home’ with our pups, so we can really get to know a city and find those special spots that make us fall in love with all that the Northeast has to offer.”
