Behold, a Portable Dishwasher That Cleans Your Dishes — And Even Your Phone
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has rightfully turned just about everyone into a germaphobe — and one particular catch-all product has made a well-timed arrival. Loch Electronics, an environmental-driven company based in Scotland, recently launched Capsule, a 3-in-1 compact dishwasher that cleans kitchenware, fruits and vegetables, and personal items like keys, masks, wallets, and phones. Yes, you read that correctly. Keys! Masks! Wallets! Phones!
Designed for small households with the capacity to wash two meals worth of dishes, Capsule is available to pre-order on Kickstarter for an early bird price of $359. Along with a washing feature that fits large dinner plates, frying pans, and chopping boards, as well as fruits and vegetables, Capsule has a separate UV light feature for medical grade disinfectant that can sterilize the aforementioned personal items.
The overall goal, according to the press release, is to make dishwashers accessible not just for large households, but also smaller ones with one to two people. Capsule takes up about 9.8 inches of countertop space and weighs at 22 pounds, equaling the weight of a 24 pack of beer.
According to the company, Capsule uses two jars of water to wash up to 15 items in just 15 minutes. It also works with or without plumbing, reducing energy and water usage. “The Capsule dishwasher is the perfect example of our company mission,” said Francisco Carreño, Loch Electronics founder. “With Capsule, we created an aesthetically pleasing, extremely functional and sustainable product for consumers that challenges the status quo of established companies not doing enough for our planet.”
Basic dishwasher soap, tablets, gel, or powder work with the Capsule. (Loch advises against manual washing detergent.) The product ships to the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. (The product has since exceeded its pledge goal at time of publication.)
