The Best Place To Try Bouclé Just Might Be in Your Bedroom
For anyone who’s had their heart set on buying something bouclé for the home, you probably already know this luxe fabric seems to increase the price of just about everything it’s on, from sofas to chairs and even pillows. If high-end bouclé isn’t currently in your budget, though, you can find a few ways to get the look for a lot less. Typically, that involves smaller pieces, but if you’re ready to invest in a more substantial furnishing that won’t totally break the bank, the best place to try bouclé may actually be in your bedroom… for your headboard.
A household name for cozy sheets, pillows, and of course, mattresses, Casper recently has gotten into the furniture game, expanding their offerings to include larger items like bed frames and upholstered headboards. Right now, the brand only has two different styles of headboards, the Drift and Bliss, and one of them, the Bliss, is — you guessed it! — available in bouclé. When I saw the sub-$700 price tag, I just had to splurge here, since that’s actually fairly reasonable for a big bouclé piece.
Personally, I try to style my home on a budget, with a mix of high- and low-cost items. My bedroom is a perfect example of this design philosophy. I scored a $120 metal bed frame from Amazon with the intention of investing a bit more on a quality, stylish headboard. My fellow editors at AT rave about bouclé, so I was decided to take the plunge on the Bliss headboard, and I’m glad that I did. It’s the perfect neutral foundation and focal point for my sleep space, and I love the luxe texture the nubby fabric brings in without disturbing its overall relaxing, restful vibe. I’m also a fan of the modern, channel tufted construction, which adds clean, vertical lines to the room.
If you’ve never owned anything bouclé, then you may not know that it isn’t always the easiest material to clean, especially in cream and white colorways. So if you’re considering bringing some bouclé into your home, a headboard may be the most logical place to do it. Think about it: How often does your headboard get dirty? It’s not exposed to food or drink the way a sofa is, and typically, when you lean back on a headboard to read or watch TV, there’s a buffer of pillows to keep your body from making direct contact with it. Keep those pillows clean, and you probably only have to spiff up this spot a few times a year, say, with a vacuum or duster. If you’re worried about dirt or staining though, you can also opt for the ash shade, which is an even better camouflager than the cream color.
Both Bliss headboards are compatible with most universal bed frames, so you don’t have to worry about what you might currently be using to support your mattress for this upgrade. At $640 for a queen, the Bliss isn’t exactly cheap, but in contrast to other bouclé furniture, it’s as close to a bargain as I’ve seen, and so far, it’s holding up so well.
