I’m a huge fan of multifunctional furniture when it comes to small spaces. I love furniture that does double duty and offers more than just one use. When you’re light on square footage, you’ve got to make everything you fit into your space work hard. I’m not picky about what the two functions are that a furniture piece does — some pieces, for instance, offer extra storage in addition to their primary function, and that’s great if you need the extra space to hide things.

I recently spent a week taking in the sights of Singapore while learning about the people behind Castlery and their furniture offerings. And, during this trip, I discovered the best small-space-friendly table I’ve ever seen.

Castlery pops up in  house tours, and the brand’s Sofa Armrest Table won Best WFH Accessory in Apartment Therapy’s first-ever Small/Cool Design Awards. But I hadn’t personally sat in any of the furniture before.

The brand has a wide array of seating choices, including super deep sectionals and swivel lounge chairs, and Castlery sells everything from side tables and bookshelves to dining tables and more. But there was one furniture piece that I can’t stop raving about, and it’s Castlery’s Hugg Nesting Rectangular Coffee Table.

If you need extra seating for when you have guests over, the Hugg Nesting Rectangular Coffee Table is the perfect choice. It’s a simple, mid-century modern-inspired wooden table (available in three finishes) that also offers two additional upholstered seats for your short-on-space home. The best part is how beautifully the two seats nest under the table’s top and around the table’s legs. Pushed under, the seats complement the table to create a chunky and hip-looking composition. With the seats pulled out, the piece becomes a multifunctional surface with two comfy chairs.

It’ll save your guests from having to sit on the floor and do it in style. It’s perfect if you don’t have room for a full table. Its price (and build quality) means it’s more like an investment piece rather than a quick big-box buy. But thanks to its size and versatility, you could use it in homes of all sizes and styles for years to come.

The best part? Castlery’s Hugg line comes in two additional sizes and arrangements! For those who need even more seating, there’s a square version with four seats; a smaller side table offers one extra nesting seat.

And while Castlery generously flew me to Singapore to teach me about the country and its own design, I’m happy to say that I’d be recommending this furniture even if the brand hadn’t spent a cent on me; I enjoyed everything I saw so much that I’m thinking about upgrading both my sofa and bed!
