Cat parents will be elated to learn that an eccentric new product might hit the pet market soon. Cat furniture brand Catham City has launched a Kickstarter for The Loveseat, a piece of furniture that combines an armchair and a cat exercise wheel. Don’t ask questions. This is real. It could exist. While traditional loveseats are made for two, Catham City’s Loveseat is made for one and their cat to “bond in a way that makes sense for both of you,” according to the product description. The Loveseat will be funded if it reaches its pledged goal of $20,000 by May 31.

Catham City has a commitment to sustainable design, too. The Loveseat would be made from beech wood and plywood with a biodegradable wax finish. The pillows, which are an off-white and slightly beige color, would be made from recycled PU leather and foam and synthetic fibers. It also comes with a mini round tray attached to one of the arms, serving as a table for coffee (or wine). The wheel is ideal for cats up to 15 lbs. Those with larger cats could upgrade to a larger wheel at an additional cost, suitable for cats up to 25 lbs.

The Loveseat retails at $450 for an early bed special, $499 as a backers special, and $850 for a twin set of two Loveseats.

Additionally, the Loveseat will arrive as a self assembly kit. According to the product description, it would only take about 10 minutes to put together — and offer “pleasure for nine lives.” And since the product involves self compilation, consumers have the freedom to choose which side of the armchair to install the exercise wheel on.  “The biggest benefit of the Loveseat is the healthy time you will spend together,” said product creator Beth Horneman, who dreamt up the design amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic quarantine, on Kickstarter. “Your fur baby will be encouraged to use the wheel often, because you are nearby.”
