I’ve Styled This Pleated Lamp All Over My Apartment, and It’s Still One of My Best Purchases Ever

I admittedly have a bit of a table lamp addiction. I can never help myself from purchasing lamps that speak to me, even though I live in a small apartment in New York City with fairly limited surface space and have had to get a bit creative. I find that lamps truly add so much charm to any room. You can place them on your bedside tables, of course, but have you ever set one up on your bar cart? What about on top of your fireplace mantel or even on the kitchen counter?

Though I enjoy sourcing most of my home decor secondhand, CB2 is a longtime favorite source, and I purchase my fair share of accents there, too. A few years back, while living in my Washington, D.C., apartment, I couldn’t help but order a darling black and white ruffled lamp that was calling my name. I love the look of ruffled items but find that oftentimes, such pieces lean a bit too grandmillennial style for my aesthetic. So when I find ruffled, scalloped, or pleated items that feel a bit more contemporary and eclectic, I get major heart eyes, and that’s exactly why I ordered the Scrunch Table Lamp immediately, sight-unseen.

At one point, I displayed this lamp on my entryway table, but eventually, I moved it over to my bar area to add a little bit of soft light to that corner of my living room. On social media, I’ve also seen this lamp styled in bedrooms on nightstands, on top of desks, and even on a dining room buffet. What makes it so versatile is its size; at just 23-inches high and 13-inches wide, the lamp substantial enough for its $169 price tag but still easy to tuck into tighter spots. It’s probably a little too large for a kitchen counter, but I could even see it making a statement on a bar cart, if you don’t have room for a console or sideboard to put it on (like I did in the entryway of my old DC apartment, shown just below).

This lamp is one of my favorite CB2 purchases ever and has since moved with me to my New York apartment, where I continue to receive compliments on the piece (you can see it on my bar cabinet at the top of the story, but I’ve also used it elsewhere). I’m pretty sure some people have mistaken it for a one-of-a kind find, and that’s probably because of the pattern-on-pattern design. The squiggly, composition notebook-esque pattern of the base also graces the shade, which makes the piece so unique among other home decor store lamp options. The pattern also makes the lamp a style chameleon, in my opinion. It can read as ’80s post-modern, maximalist, or more vintage eclectic meets traditional, which is how I have it styled. It’s nice knowing that if my home design aesthetic changed a bit, this piece would probably still fit in.

Part of CB2’s collection with the designer Kara Mann from 2020, this style has stayed in the brand’s offerings for a few years now and is currently in stock, so you might want to scoop one up before it’s gone. In today’s world of backordered goods, that’s a huge win, in my opinion, and trust me when I say it: This style has serious staying power.
