Location: Downtown Nashville, Tennessee
Size: 1,200 square feet

Years lived in: 2 years; Owned

Chad James is a Nashville architectural consultant & interior designer with a bit of a reputation. Not the kind of reputation your mother warned you about acquiring, but the kind that lands you some of the most exciting design projects this side of the Mississippi. As the principle of Chad James Group, he’s designed spaces all over the world. When you walk into his home, you expect things. Chad delivers. His space is a true reflection of him, his love of art, his love of comfort, and his wicked sense of humor.

Chad’s condo sits in a building in the heart of downtown Nashville. Built in 1902, on the same block that once hosted President Polk’s presidential mansion, Chad found the 2 bedroom unit in need of his touch in 2012. The ruggedness of the exposed brick walls and dark hardwood is softened with Chad’s artful use of drapes. Floor-to-ceiling, sheer drapes divide the open kitchen & living room without closing them off—voice and light flow between the spaces as if there was nothing there at all. He continues the technique in the bedroom, softening the exposed brick for a comfortable bedroom experience.

His attention to detail is readily apparent. Interesting vignettes, featuring everything from Legos, to Hermes boxes, to old maritime chains, capture the curiosity of anyone who lets their eyes explore. All manner of books, eclectic art and vintages pieces are mixed together artfully for the perfect harmony between luxury, comfort, masculinity and a touch of playful irreverence. Chad shares the condo with the lady of the house, Josie, a peaceful rescued greyhound who loves to push the boundaries with being allowed on the bed.
