One of my favorite evening pastimes is scrolling through TikTok’s #CleanTok section to find the best tips and hacks to clean every part of my home. While I am quite diligent when it comes to cleaning my kitchen cabinets (usually about once a week), I recently came across this simple way to wipe off grease from the underside of cabinets — a spot I usually forget about.

I am quick to try out viral cleaning hacks and tricks, and I was particularly excited about this one because I could use non-toxic and household ingredients (which means I didn’t have to spend money on yet another cleaning product!).

As the video instructs, I mixed a half cup of baking soda with one cup of water. I did, however, add the juice of a whole lemon instead of just a squirt to intensify the fresh aroma. And while I typically use microfiber or cotton knit cloths for wiping my counters and cabinets, I decided to try out a Wet-it Swedish dishcloth for a truly eco-friendly cleaning job.

I proceeded to mix everything in a measuring cup and soak the cloth for a few seconds, wringing it slightly afterward to avoid dripping. Then, I got to work.

I was able to easily wipe off most of the grease and grime. I was also very pleased with the lemon scent that made my whole kitchen smell great. I wiped the undersides of my cabinets with this mixture twice and once with just warm water and was able to remove weeks’ worth of splatter and gunk.

Although I do recommend using slightly less baking soda if using this method to clean a kitchen surface (there was a little too much paste to wipe off the cabinets), the excess is great to use in other ways, like pouring down your garbage disposal for a quick refresh.

If you want to keep the underside of your cabinets free from splatter, this easy method is convenient and effective — plus, it adds a natural fragrance to your kitchen.
