I adore a mini handbag and have amassed quite a sizable collection. But my bedroom closet, which is already stuffed to the brim, wasn’t exactly the best place to store them. My purses would end up in a haphazard pile on a shelf — or sometimes on the floor — and it seemed like the bag I wanted was always hiding under another.

Then I came across the idea of using a coffee mug hanger as a closet organizer right here on Apartment Therapy, and I knew immediately I needed to try this hack — but in my entryway instead.

Why You Should Put a Coffee Mug Hanger on Your Entryway Wall

I ordered a simple wall-mounted mug rack, installed it inside of my hall closet, added some S-hooks, and hung up my most-used bags. The difference was instantaneous, and I only wish I’d done it sooner.

Instead of playing my least favorite game of handbag Jenga every morning, I can actually see my options in one place, conveniently located right next to my front door. Even better, my precious bags aren’t being squished beneath each other anymore, so they hold their shape — dogs included.

What Makes a Coffee Mug Hanger the Perfect Small-Space Storage Trick

What I love most about this hack is that it takes advantage of space that was otherwise unused. Rather than sacrificing an entire shelf, the rack turns an empty section of my hall closet’s vertical space into functional storage. My bags are finally easy to grab and just as easy to put away, which is a lazy girl’s (ahem, me) dream.

While I used mine for handbags, this little organizer has more potential than its name suggests. It could easily hold hats, scarves, belts, keys, reusable shopping totes, dog leashes, or any other lightweight accessory you may want to grab on the go.
