A Dark Teal Color Transformed This Condo’s “American Psycho” White Walls
Angela Hysen, who is a social service manager with a nonprofit organization, chose her condo’s building — in the Lowertown neighborhood in Ottawa, Ontario — because of its location to Rideau River, Strathcona Park, and the many embassies in the area. “I also like that it’s walking distance to Parliament, wonderful art galleries, cafés, and the best shawarma,” she admits.

When it came to picking out this particular condo, Angela made an interesting decision. “While exploring the units within this building, I eyed the corner unit because it reminded me of my grandmother who used to live in a corner apartment and felt I had to get it despite the size that was smaller than other units on the floor,” she writes.
The corner unit she purchased a year and a half ago is 506 square feet with one bedroom. And she says before she moved in, the space had “typical modern American Psycho white walls” with “beige furniture vibes.” To combat all that blandness, Angela made sure to “bring in my grandmother’s style in this place to make it more cozy.”
And as a cinephile, she also made sure to incorporate film references. Now that she’s lived here for a while, the home has “[m]odern aesthetic sensibilities imbued with quirky as F decor.”
