This Louisville Home Is Completely Wild (And Honestly I Love It)
This Louisville Home Is Completely Wild (And Honestly I Love It)
In my tenure as house tour director at AT, I’ve seen inside hundreds (actually probably more like thousands) of homes. Each one unique, of course, but some more alike than others. I think that’s why I personally gravitate to the homes that are so wildly “out there” they are like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I simply adore homes where the homeowner has put their own personal stamp over every square inch. The very definition of “not everyone’s cup of tea,” I’m thinking of homes like the ones designed by Tay BeepBoop, Dani Klarić, Bridgette Whitney, Kaarin Joy, and the Thrifty Maximalist Kristin Cedar.

And now, there’s a new designer to add to the list: Madi Moxxi (@madimoxxi on TikTok), who, along with her wife, Kylie, have utterly transformed this house in Louisville, Kentucky. And while it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s certainly not boring.
This was both Madi and Kylie’s first time purchasing a home, and Madi reports they were looking during 2020, when interest rates were low and “homes were flying off the market fast and way above asking price.” As such, Madi admits this house — a three-bedroom, 1110-square-foot space in Louisville’s Fern Creek neighborhood — wasn’t exactly their dream home upon first sight.
“It was quite underwhelming coming to terms with what we could fit into our budget at the time, and many houses were a bust. I think many first-time home buyers can relate. The arched doorways and the huge basement drew us in. We knew from the beginning it was a home we had to work to make our own but that excited us. We immediately told our realtor to put an offer in while standing in the house.”
Madi is a full-time artist and interior decorator, describing her art as a “mix of pop and street art” and “signature ‘drippy’ sculptures.” She says she’s always been drawn to what she calls the colorful, bold, and extraordinary aspects of life.” She wants all the interiors she creates to be experiences, and says she likes for guests to her “pop eclectic” style home to think of it more as an interactive museum than a house.
Those philosophies absolutely apply to their home, where the couple DIYed just about everything except the light fixtures and light switches in the basement. “Every room was painted or wallpapered and had a new light fixture added,” Madi describes. “I am very good at that now.”
