Cozy kitchen with wooden sideboard, potted plant, hanging decor, and open shelves with jars and kitchenware.

While recently browsing my favorite section of my local thrift store — the kitchenware section — I noticed that there seemed to be a ton of cooling racks for baking available. Seeing so many of them made me think about all the possible alternative uses for these nifty baking tools.

I thought a cooling rack mounted on the wall could be a great storage solution for hanging items and displaying essentials, and social media seemed to have the same idea. I decided to give it a go and, honestly, I adore the results even more than I anticipated. Here’s a rundown of what I did and why I love it so much.

Why I Put a Cooling Rack on My Entryway Wall

For this project I just needed a few hooks, a pencil, and, of course, a cooling rack. There are different cooling racks to choose from for different items you’re storing, from grid models to circular racks, but any type can work depending on your space, like this set from Amazon, or Dollar Tree’s Cooking Concepts version that offers a little more space. Consider what you intend to use the rack for so you know what style to use. For instance, if you have lots of tiny items you want to hang, a cooling rack with a square grid may work best, but if you have wider items, a rack with larger gaps would be more suitable.

I hung my cooling rack on my entryway wall to spruce up the space with a cute visual display that keeps all my most-used items handy. To hang it, I held it against the wall horizontally to see where I wanted to mount it and used a pencil to mark the wall as guides for where to attach the renter-friendly adhesive hooks (you can also use screws or nails). From there, it was easy to hang the rack over the hooks and arrange items onto my new storage destination.

Why a Cooling Rack Makes the Perfect Wall Organizer

I love how customizable this trick is depending on what type of cooling rack you use. I tried out two different racks in my entryway — a larger grid version, pictured, and a smaller circular one, like this one — and it’s so hard to pick a favorite! I love how the larger grid rack is perfect for hanging up items like my glasses and dangly earrings, and it reminds me of a stylish pinboard. The circular one looked so unique and even had room to loop larger items like my favorite scarf. It’d also be cute to add hooks to it for hanging keys or dog leashes.

It’s important to make sure you use strong adhesive hooks if you intend to hang larger items like scarves from the rack to ensure it stays on the wall. To my surprise, the cooling rack doesn’t look out of place at all, and the more items I added, the more it all came together. I’d recommend this hack to anyone to try out — it’s effective, chic, and super-budget-friendly!
