Costco Is Selling a Gorgeous Addition to Your Yard — Just in Time for Summer
Looking to add some color and shade to your lawn? Then you might want to consider swinging by your local Costco. The discount store is selling gorgeous Japanese maple trees that will last you years, all for under $50.
Instagram content creator @costco_doesitagain showed off the find in a June 2 post, simply writing, “They’re Back!”
Costco’s Japanese maples are a bargain, retailing for just $42 per tree. Judging from the comments on @costco_doesitagain’s post, the store’s crop of Japanese maples can seamlessly transition from their in-store pots to your front yard.
“I got one last year!” one commenter wrote. “It’s growing well in my yard!!”
Part of the appeal of Japanese maples is their year-round visual appeal. These beauties bloom year-round and sport bright, colorful leaves, which come in shades of red, orange, purple, and yellow.
According to professionals, having a Japanese maple tree can boost your home’s curb appeal. As Nurit Coombe, managing partner of The Agency, D.C. Metro, previously told Apartment Therapy, the tree provides a stunning pop of color. However, you won’t have to worry about your Japanese maple growing so large as to block light inside your house or excessively shade your existing landscaping.
“The Japanese maple tree also represents peace and serenity,” Coombe said. “So when walking into your home or looking out the window and seeing it, you’ll get a sense of being at peace in your home — with a pretty view, of course.”
When it comes to caring for your Japanese maple, experts recommend giving your tree dappled or afternoon shade and planting it in well-drained, consistently moist soil.
The trees are currently out of stock online, so if heading to Costco isn’t an option for you, you can grab a similar tree from Lowe’s for $59.98. Although the price tag is slightly higher, free delivery is included in the price, so you’ll get your money’s worth!
