I’m a big proponent of being cozy at every possible moment, so lighting a candle and wrapping myself up in a blanket is pretty much a staple in my evening routine. Naturally, I have an obscene amount of both of those things scattered around my tiny apartment. Cramped as it is, the blankets have been posing a bit of an issue. It’s easy to stash a candle away in a cabinet. A blanket, on the other hand? Not so much.

As much as I hate to say it, I’ve had to start getting rid of some things to eke out more space in my small studio, and even I had to admit that five throw blankets is a bit excessive for one person. There is one, however, that I didn’t even consider giving away: Crane & Canopy’s Ivory Knitted Throw.

I’ve owned it for over a year at this point, and in my eyes, it’s as close to perfect as a throw blanket can be. The blanket adds texture to wherever it’s draped; it’s generous enough in size to cover my whole body. Most importantly, out of every throw I’ve ever owned, it has the most versatile weight for every season.

What Is the Crane & Canopy Ivory Knitted Throw?

First, allow me to give you a brief rundown on Crane & Canopy if you haven’t encountered the brand before. Speaking for myself and a number of my Apartment Therapy teammates, we’ve been fans of this high-quality bedding and bath linens brand for years. It’s been around for over a decade, establishing itself as one of the first direct-to-consumer bedding brands to hit the market. It set out to sell luxury-quality products — loungewear and decor are also on its lineup — at fair prices.

This 100%-cotton throw is one of those items. It measures 50×60 inches and offers a classic look that pairs well with any color or pattern that’s already on your bed or sofa. The knit is reminiscent of a supersoft fisherman sweater. The slightly loose weave makes it an ideal layering piece on a bed. Its weight also works for warmer spring and summer nights in on the couch.

Why I Love the Crane & Canopy Ivory Knitted Throw

I like to think that I’ve decorated my apartment pretty nicely, but when my aunt visited me for the first time, nothing earned a bigger reaction from her than this throw blanket. She slept on my couch for a few days, and it was one of her layers. The way she was talking about it made it seem like it was the throw blanket version of a unicorn, saying how rare it is to find one that keeps you cozy without edging into too-warm or too-thin territory.

Of course, that’s one reason why I’m such a big fan of it. The barely there gaps in the weave provide just the right amount of coverage, letting a bit of air in to keep cool but not so much that I get chilly. I’m also a sucker for a pop of texture, and it has a coastal, even vintage look to it. Which is good for me, considering that I plan to hold onto it for as long as possible. The material is sturdy — unlike some knits I’ve owned, the threads haven’t pulled. And it can go through the washing machine and dryer, no problem.

I know that $96 may seem a little steep for a throw, but you really do get what you pay for: a timeless blanket that you can use all year long, whether it’s the dead of summer or height of winter. Others on the market that look similar fall within the same price range — and in some cases cost even more. The way I see it, something that lasts and sees year-round use is worth it.
