Debra Messing’s Ceilings Match Her Walls, and It’s a Great Look You Can Copy
“Will & Grace” actress Debra Messing has been fine-tuning her piano skills during the COVID-19 lockdown, which means she’s treated followers to an update from her piano room. While plucking the tune to John Legend and Common’s “Glory,” Messing showed off the paint treatment she gave the space, and it’s hard not to love the cozy vibe she created by painting her walls and ceiling the same dark red color.
The technique of matching the ceiling to the walls is one that is seeing an uptick in popularity. Though you might think a ceiling-and-wall color match could feel a bit overly dramatic and claustrophobic, the result can actually be quite calming, especially when a room’s trim is also done up in the same hue, thanks to the lack of contrast between a bright white ceiling and a darker-toned wall.
With the wall color bleeding onto the ceiling, the eye doesn’t bounce around from color to color and instead can focus on the art on the walls, the furniture, or the accessories scattered about the room. In Messing’s case, the items on her bookshelf (also painted in that brick red) get the chance to stand out without having to compete with a stark white ceiling.
Of course, this trend may not be for everyone. But if the lockdown period has you craving warm, cozy, and cavelike spaces, painting your ceiling the same color as your walls will definitely tick that box.
