We Gave 4 Designers $100 — Here’s What They Bought at West Elm

“I adore these tapestry-inspired pillows,” says Julia Newman Pedraza, founder and principal designer of Julia Adele Design. “They add a richness and depth to a space.” At just $29 for the pillow cover alone or $41 for an added insert (down-filled or down alternative), you really can’t beat the price, either. Made from a cotton and linen blend and manufactured in a Fair Trade Certified factory, there’s a lot to love about this vintage-looking piece.

“You can bring visual interest into a room through unusual lines, and this lamp is a perfect example,” says Newman Pedraza. At just under $100, it’s a bit more of a splurge, but quality lighting is always worth the investment. Its unique, squiggly base adds a playful-yet-modern look to your space, and it’s also compatible with dimming light bulbs, if desired.

Whether you use them for displaying fresh florals, greenery, or faux plants, vases are a staple in any design-forward home. “You can never have enough vases, and this one goes with everything,” Newman Pedraza says. Lean into the marble trend with these organically shaped Kali vases, all one-of-a-kind and available in two different sizes and silhouettes. “I love these statement-making tortoise vases,” says Shani Core, founder and principal designer of Shani Core Interiors. “The subtle pop of animal print can wake up almost any color palette.” Made from mouth-blown soda lime glass, these come in four different sizes, ranging from small ($34 each) to extra large ($90 each). “They may be used alone or in a group to create a sophisticated and expensive-looking vignette on a budget,” adds Core.

Jessica Dorling, owner and principal designer of Dorling Design Studio, has her eye on these handcrafted petrified wood coasters. "Their unique look not only brings a touch of the natural element to your space, but also exudes a sense of depth and age,” she says. “Additionally, they’re moisture-absorbing, which ensures that your glass won't stick to the coaster when you lift it!" Grab a set of four for $60.

According to Caroline Kopp, owner and principal designer of Caroline Kopp Interior Design, “Trays are a great styling piece to add that layer of luxury to your vignettes and corral smaller items so they don’t look cluttered.” She recommends these moody West Elm marble styles for their “high-end look” — specifically the dark green color way. “I would use it in a dressing area or bar,” she adds. West Elm’s white ceramic vase collection features 10 different sizes and shapes, most priced under $100.
