Best known for its incredible fashion finds and designer pieces at deep discounts, T.J. Maxx carries plenty of gems in its home decor section, too. Whether you’re shopping in-store or online, you’ll find everything from larger furniture and lighting to smaller items like bed sheets, table linens, and storage. The brand also stocks kitchen essentials and trendy decorative accessories — from cooking essentials and key serving pieces to candles and coffee table books — all perfect for filling your shelves and styling out your countertops on a budget.

With so many great items for the home, though, I wanted to ask a few pro designers what they’d shop for at T.J. Maxx right now if they only had $50 to spend. Interior designers have the best eye — and they can home in on quality finds like none other, even when held to a strict price cap. So here’s what three pros would put in their carts today for the fall season.

Catherine Hooper, owner and lead designer of iSPY Home Design

“A large teak cutting board never goes out of style,” says Hooper. “It’s incredibly versatile, working as well for everyday cutting needs as it does as a chic way to display a cheese or charcuterie board. Plus, you can’t beat this price!”

“One of the first things people see when they enter your home is your keys,” says Hooper. “Why not store them in something pretty? I love using marble bowls like this one, which almost looks like a piece of art. They’re great for matches, jewelry, and other decorative items as well. Don’t sleep on your entryway; it’s the first window into your home.”

Samantha Stathis-Lynch, owner and lead designer of Samantha Ware Designs

“Evoking a sense of old-world charm, this vintage-inspired still life encompasses all that is cozy and warm,” says Stathis-Lynch, who also works with T.J. Maxx and Marshalls as a home style expert. “Set against a dark brown background, the autumnal ochre, yellow, and green colors of the fruit work beautifully together to create a moody yet subtle scene, perfect for cold fall nights snuggled up by the fire or gathering with family and friends in the dining room.”

“With autumn comes an increase in cozy nights in and themed dinner parties, making beautiful tablescapes a necessity,” says Stathis-Lynch. “When building any dinner table, it’s important to draw inspiration from the linens. Choosing tablecloths or placemats that combine color and pattern is essential, as they will dictate the aesthetic of all the other pieces displayed on the table. These floral print placemats in a beautiful magenta are perfect for adding a touch of organic sensibility and warmth to your table. Try pulling out the vibrant color in items such as glassware or candles to create a timeless-yet-fun table — perfect for time spent with friends and family.”

Kyi Gyaw, owner and lead designer of Kyi Gyaw Interiors

“T.J. Maxx is a goldmine for finding luxurious-looking pillows and throws that won’t stretch your budget if you keep a few key factors in mind,” says designer Kyi Gyaw. “When shopping, I focus on texture, how something feels to the touch; fill, choosing feather inserts for a plush, upscale vibe; and detail, the finishing touches that make all the difference. Take the Westex pillow I found for just $19.99 and would buy two of, for example. It boasts a refined, tone-on-tone color palette and two different fabric textures, exuding a subtle elegance. Plus, its feather fill ensures it’s not only stylish, but also plush and supportive, making it perfect for adding a touch of luxury to two lounge chairs I’m currently styling.”

“I’m also adding a stoneware taper candle holder with an artisan-crafted look [to my cart],” says Gyaw. “It’s ideal for bringing warmth and character to my projects.”
