A Creator Made a $50,000-Inspired Lamp With Just $200 Worth of Materials
More often than not, the light fixture of your dreams comes with a hefty price tag (the best always do!) — and in those instances, you may be inclined to get crafty with a DIY look-alike. When Karie (@karie_thecreator) wanted a “funky” set of pendant lights for her bedroom, she took matters into her own hands, creating a gorgeous fixture using materials that cost her under $200.
The result? A piece that’s strikingly similar to a rather famous piece many have coveted on the internet — the $50,000 Trueing chandelier in Emma Chamberlain’s home.
“Y’all know me — I wanted something funky and different for this space,” Karie wrote in a recent Instagram caption. “I couldn’t find anything in my budget, so I made it! && I absolutely lurvvvve the way these pendants turned out!”
This $200 DIY Pendant Looks as if It Was Ripped from Emma Chamberlain’s Home
In her video, Karie says that this lamp came together with a length of green plastic chain from Mr. Chain and a pendant light from Amazon. Whether Karie knew it or not, she channeled Chamberlain’s interior design style in her home, too.
The chain comes in a variety of fun colors, including a handful of metallic options, allowing you to fully customize this DIY light to suit your own interiors. Karie bought a 25-foot length of 5-inch-long links, providing plenty of space for her to weave the light cord into the chain, suspend it from the ceiling, and plug it in next to her bed.
The light used here is Amazon’s KCO Glass Globe Pendant Light. With just under 15 feet of cord, it’s ideal for creating that swag lamp effect. All you need to do is anchor the chain and cord to the ceiling at two points using a screw-in hook, and that’s it!
This under-$200 DIY lamp is so easy to make and looks so high-end that you’ll want one in every room. The perfect lighting fixture for your space does exist — you just have to make it first!
