This DIY Floating Ornament Centerpiece on TikTok Looks Like Christmas Magic, But It’s Actually So Simple To Make
Holly berries and boughs of evergreen will always look beautiful at the center of your Christmas table. But if you’re looking to really wow your dinner guests this Christmas, the viral TikTok shows you how to make a centerpiece that looks like there’s some Christmas magic at play.
Using water gel beads made specifically for creating fun centerpiece arrangements, TikTok user Catherine Grey (@CatherineGrey.xo) layered ornaments in between handfuls of gel beads, adding water at the very end, to create a display that makes it look like the ornaments are suspended in water.
The water beads also help keep a floating candle upright and nestled on top of the waterline.
When water is added to a vase filled with the gel beads, the beads virtually disappear, creating the appearance of an object being suspended. They can also be used without water to create a crystallike affect in a clear vessel.
The trick to creating that suspended-in-water look is layering your objects throughout the beads as Grey did. You can use ornaments, foliage, sea shells, or any other piece of decor that is safe to put in water.
It should also be noted (as many parents have said in the comments of Catherine Grey’s TikTok) that water beads should not be used in households with children because the beads can be really enticing for young ones to put in their mouths, which is a total no-no. But as long as kids aren’t in the picture, then this centerpiece will wow your friends and family.
