How to Make a Minimalist Christmas Tree-Inspired Door Decoration
While friends and loved ones may not get to see the holiday decor inside your home this year, you can still celebrate from afar. Your front door offers the perfect canvas for a little festive flair in the form of an easy-to-make holiday wreath.
If you’re looking for something with a natural spin that’s also a breeze to pull together, then this abstract, minimalist Christmas tree is for you. You’ll only need a few materials and about 30 minutes. From there, you can leave the tree plain for an earthy look , or you can add tiny ornaments for a little bling. Here’s how to pull it off.
What you’ll need for a minimalist Christmas tree door decoration:
- Various types of eucalyptus (you can grab these at grocery stores like Trader Joe’s)
- Floral wire
- Scissors
- Rope light clips
How to make a minimalist Christmas tree door decoration:
1. Build your first eucalyptus bundle
Measure the width of your door and subtract a few inches to come up with the size for the bottom/widest bundle of eucalyptus. Take two of the largest branches and turn them in so the ends of the stems overlap in the middle of the bundle. Wrap floral wire around the stems to secure the base of the bundle, then build it up by layering the various types of eucalyptus on top, covering the bare stems on the bottom layer.
2. Build the remaining bundles
Continue building bundles, decreasing the length of each by a few inches.
3. Make the tree top
Create a small cluster for the very top of the tree.
4. Attach the bundles to the door
Attach the bundles to the door, increasing in size from the top to the bottom. I found it was easiest to use rope light hooks on the door to hold the bundles in place. Once you position the hooks on the door, push a few stems from each bundle inside the hook.
I found that one hook in the middle was sufficient for each bundle, but one on each side would be best if you’re hanging this on a door that gets a lot of use.
From here, you can leave the tree plain, as I did, or wire on small decorative ornaments for a little more sparkle.
