How to Make Colorful Ornament Decorations for Your Front Door
You might have to skip some holiday traditions this year, but others are alive and thriving. For instance: Fun door decorations that bring your neighbors a little joy from a safe social distance.
If you’re looking for something a little different than the standard-issue wreath, these whimsical hanging ornaments are for you. They’re quick to make, and you can decorate them in any color scheme you want—plus, they make for a great whole-family activity. The best part? You’ll be able to use some items you’ll readily have on hand. Here’s how to do it.
What you’ll need to make colorful hanging ornament door decor:
- paper
- pencil
- scissors
- craft paint in any color
- paintbrushes
- sequins, glitter, jewels, or any other accents you want to add
- silver tinsel pipe cleaners
- silver fringe trim
- hot glue gun
- string for hanging
How to make colorful ornament door decor:
1. Create a paper template
Make a template for your ornament using plain paper. Fold it in half, then draw half of the ornament shape.
2. Trace the template
Cut out the shape, unfold the paper, and trace it onto a piece of cardboard.
3. Paint the ornament’s base color
Using craft paint and a small brush, fill in the outline with solid white.
4. Add color, pattern, and sparkle
Unload your arsenal of craft paints, sequins, and glitter, grab some jingle bells and a hot glue gun, and create bright and colorful ornaments in any pattern you like. When dry, cut the ornament out of the cardboard.
Add silver trim to mimic the look of silver ornament caps, and attach a pipe cleaner in the shape of a circle to the top of the ornament. Add string and use Command hooks to attach to your door at varying heights.
