Shower rings aren’t just for your bathroom anymore—the affordable hooks can also be used inside your bedroom as a clever organizing hack for your accessories.

If you have a basket of scarves, then you know that the struggle is real when it comes to organizing them. When they’re thrown into a drawer or jumbled on a shelf, it’s hard to remember what you own. If you can’t visually see it, then chances are you forget you have it and don’t wear it as often as you would. An easy fix to this disorganized mess is getting a scarf hanger which offers a series of hooks that you hang your accessories off of… but there’s a more cost-effective hack to pull off the same concept: shower rings.

All you need to make your own scarf rack is a standard clothes hanger and a packet of shower curtain rings. Attach the rings around the bottom rung of the hanger, and then drape each scarf over its own designated ring. And because the shower rings snap open, you can use them to hang baseball hats, belts, ties, or really, any accessory that will fit.

If you’re worried about your scarves and shawls slipping off, you can twist the two scarf ends around each other, and then knot them at the ends to keep the handkerchief in place, just like in a boutique. That way they will look more compact and orderly while hanging in your closet.

The perks of using shower rings instead of buying an official scarf organizer is simple: It’s much cheaper. A packet of 10 rings will cost you about a buck at a dollar store (or $1.50 online at Target), and you can use one of your leftover hangers to pull off the DIY. It’s also space saving, since you will take your accessories out of a basket or shelf and loop them through a hanger. Essentially, they will take up about the same amount of room as a hanging blouse.

Try it out, and watch as you start wearing your scarves and handkerchiefs more.
