Your next camping trip just got bigger and better. Australian-based company SLRV introduced a giant expedition vehicle to their line of extreme RVs, and the double-decker behemoth can comfortably sleep eight to ten passengers.

The SLRV 8×8 Commander is a two-story, eight-wheeled adventure vehicle that was custom designed for an Australian family back in 2018. It’s one of the largest expedition vehicles in the world at 40 feet long, according to Business Insider, and the family is currently still living in the RV as they traipse through the Australian bush.

Built on a military-grade MAN TGS truck base, the 8×8 Commander has a retractable second story that lifts 6.5 feet with a push of a button. It’s in this second-story loft where six kids can sleep comfortably.

The vehicle also comes equipped with a solar-charged electrical system comprised of rechargeable lithium batteries and diesel backup generator. This system powers the Commader’s plethora of appliances (double oven, electric range, fridge, washing machine) as well as the electrical components that run the loft lift, lights, and electronic gadgets.

Because this 8×8 Commander was a custom order, no price is listed on the SLRV website. However, SLRV’s Warwick Boswerger told Caravan Camping Sales that the estimated final cost of the mega RV would land “somewhere between one and two million dollars…You’re looking at just over half a million dollars for the base vehicle alone.”

So, maybe taking the 8×8 Commander on your next camping trip isn’t a viable option for most. But hey, you can dream, right? SLRV also offers smaller vehicles that pack just as much power—their 4×4 Commander contains most of what the 8×8 offers, just on a smaller scale.
