This 50-Year-Old Brand Makes Soho House Bedding — I Tried Its Cloud-Like Down Comforter
I’m relatively new to the world of down comforters (I was born and raised in South Florida!), but my first New York winter got me familiar with it real quick. I didn’t want to get stuck on the hamster wheel of swapping my comforter every season, though. Thus began my hunt for a down comforter that was plush enough for the winter, but wouldn’t cause me (or my warm-sleeper husband) to overheat in the spring and summertime. I might’ve found just what I was looking for at Down Right.
The Brooklyn-based, family-run bedding brand has been handcrafting premium down (and down alternative) comforters, pillows, and sheets for over 50 years. Down Right even makes the bedding for Soho House (among other equally chic hotel chains), so if there’s anyone I trust to make a comforter of my dreams, it’s them. The kind folks at Down Right generously matched me with the brand’s Cascada Summit Comforter after hearing what I was looking for. And now that I’ve been sleeping on it for over a month, I’m ready to share my thoughts.

Why Down Right Stands Out
Before I get into the Cascada Summit comforter, a quick story time. I got the chance to visit Down Right HQ in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where all the products are made, filled, fluffed, sewn, and packaged to order. Walking the production floor was like getting a master class in all things down. I learned that real, genuine down isn’t actually duck or goose feathers, which can be firm and pokey; it’s actually these wispy, fluffy filaments (see the photo below!) that feel totally weightless. When filled in one of the brand’s comforters or pillows, though, they create a plush, cloudlike feeling.
I also learned that when it’s cleaned and processed properly, down is actually hypoallergenic. Down Right thoroughly washes and cleans their down of any foreign matter, so all that’s left are the fluffy, cloud-soft fibers. What’s more, Down Right is RDS certified, which means all of their down is ethically sourced from geese and ducks that are treated humanely, guaranteeing that no live-plucking or force-feeding is taking place.
A lot of companies make handmade claims, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that every step of Down Right’s production process is touched by real humans (a big feat in today’s automated age). And it’s all made to order, which helps minimize waste and ensure you’re getting the best possible down. Now, onto the comforter!
How It Performed
The folks at Down Right paired me with the Cascada Summit because I wanted something I could use year-round. And while I haven’t gotten to experience the comforter in the summertime yet, it’s been serving me well during the fickle, between-season weather of late winter and early spring. It keeps me warm and cozy on cold nights (so much so, that getting out of bed the following morning is a struggle), but doesn’t cause me to overheat during those “fake spring” days we’ve been having in New York lately. So I’m optimistic that it’ll be great once the warm weather hits, too.
It features a baffled box construction that keeps all the plush down in place, and I’m pleased to report that I haven’t noticed any filling migration so far. The comforter is still as plush and lofty as it was the day I got it. Even more impressive is the fact that, despite its thickness and cushion, it’s actually quite lightweight and breathable. My husband, who is a hot sleeper no matter the season, hasn’t reported any bouts of overheating through the night. We’ve even slept on other comforters since and agree that they pale in comparison to the Cascada Summit’s super-plush feel.
I’ll also add that I haven’t noticed any fibers shedding from inside the comforter, which is a testament to how well-made it is.

Should You Buy the Cascada Summit Comforter?
The Cascada Summit comforter will cost you $711 for a queen size, which is undeniably pricey. But if you’re willing to splurge on a top-of-the-line, all-season comforter that’ll last you years, then I’d say it’s worth the investment. Plus, Down Right’s transparency into their production process speaks for itself; the care and attention to detail that goes into every comforter is impressive. Once you have one of their comforters in your hands, you’ll feel it, too.
