This Florida Home Has a Dragon Ceiling, Perfect for House Targaryen
“Game of Thrones” may be over, but unlike many of its fallen characters, the show’s imprint is unlikely to meet a gruesome demise anytime soon; it lives on in the imaginations of all its loyal viewers.
Due to the series’ undeniable impact, it’s kind of impossible to not spot something that reminds you of GoT at every turn, whether it’s a waiter who resembles Tyrion Lannister or a bird that strangely looks like the Iron Throne. Then there’s this elaborate, dragon-filled dwelling in Ft. Lauderdale, which gives off major GoT vibes. If we had to guess what type of modern homes GoT characters would live in, we’d say the keys to this palatial pad would undoubtedly belong to none other than the infamous Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.
Described as an “avant-garde” dwelling where “modern Mediterranean and medieval fantasy” intersect, the custom four-bedroom, 3.5-bath home sits just off the intracoastal waterway in a gated community. It’s listed for $1.895 million and is represented by Todd Foster & Kim Knausz with ONE Sotheby’s International Realty.
Inside the residence, the presence of the formidable fantasy creatures is palpable, starting with the large hand-painted dragon on the library’s domed ceiling. The theme continues with the carved dragons on the ceiling beams in the grand living area, which also features a fireplace and French doors that open up to an outdoor dining area and a garden where a modern-day Daenerys might go to clear her mind in order to plot her next brutal attack. Bordering the top of the backyard doors is a dragon tile mosaic that looks out over the heated pool and spa, the bar, fountain and outdoor summer kitchen.
The unique residence was built in the ‘90s, its mystical decorative theme inspired by the original owner’s love of “The Dragon Rider” book series. The owner’s daughter paid homage to all the dragon-themed stories her mom read to her as a child by creating all of the winged, fire-breathing creatures that adorn the house. Although the home underwent a renovation in 2015, its new owners made to sure to keep the dragon accents intact.
