This Stylish Planter Is Secretly an Air Purifier and Gets Me So Many Compliments (It’s on Sale!)
If you’ve been following my writing for a while, you know I love a good piece of versatile home tech. From the innovative alarm clock that transformed the way I sleep to the chic information hub that quickly became one of my favorite parts of the day, I’m all for a creative device. That being said, there’s one category of home tech where I never thought I’d see anything too impressive come about: air purifiers.
In my experience, air purifiers are devices that are all about function, not form. That means while they’ve definitely done their job (and I should know, I’ve tested a few over the years) they weren’t ever exactly something to brag about, especially when it came to its design. So, when I got word that there was a new air purifier hitting the market that was combining top-notch air purification with a stylish, multi-functional design, I was more than intrigued. And after putting Dupray’s Bloom Air Purifier to the test I can confidently say it’s the one to beat.
A Quick Look At the Dupray Bloom Air Purifier
- Chic, eye-catching design with discreet tap controls (no app needed!)
- Doubles as either a planter or side table
- Features 3-stage medical-grade HEPA-13 air filtration technology
- Comes with an outer pre-filter (available in 13 colors) that prolongs the life of the HEPA filter
- Uses an infrared sensor to constantly monitor air quality and adjust power as needed
- Offers a night mode for quiet operation
Design Features That Stand Out
When it comes to design, the Bloom Air Purifier is truly in a league of its own. Upon first glance, it looks like a stylish modern side table thanks to its sleek cylindrical design, wooden top (available in your choice of either oak or walnut), and colorful base. A closer look, however, shows it be so much more. Beneath the wooden top, you’ll find a removable planter that allows you to properly prep your plant of choice and place it atop the purifier creating the perfect display for your plant baby (Note: Dupray claims the constant air circulation helps develop stronger roots and stems, reducing fungal infections or rot.)
Now, with such a fun design, it’s easy to think that this air purifier may be lacking in the air purification department, but rest assured: the Bloom is first and foremost a top-notch air purifier. Equipped with a 3-stage medical-grade HEPA-13 air filter, this device effortlessly removes dust, smoke, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, pollen, pet dander, allergens, molds, and stubborn odors. It also has an AutoDetect function that uses a PM2.5 infrared sensor to constantly monitor the air, adjusting its strength and power when needed. To top it off, that colorful base I mentioned before? That’s actually a washable pre-filter designed to offer extra filtration and extend the life of your HEPA filter.
How It Performed
Setting up the Bloom took all of five minutes. Because the HEPA filter comes pre-installed, all there is to do is slip the pre-filter onto the base, place the wooden top, plug it in, give the power switch in the back a quick flip, and tap the circle at the front of the machine. Here, you’ll be able to choose from three speeds, an AUTO mode, and a night mode (I went with the AUTO mode at first). You’ll also be able to immediately see how good (or bad) your air quality is as it will light up green for great, orange for fair, and a bright purple for poor.
Now for me, putting this air purifier to the test was fortunately (or unfortunately?) pretty easy. Living in a studio apartment in a major city makes having an air purifier something of a necessity. Why? Well, first and foremost, it’s no secret that air pollution is a problem in big cities. But secondly (and most importantly) studio apartment living means everything is in one room so when I cook, cooking fumes are immediately spread throughout my space.
While cooking dinner that night, I was able to see just how well (and fast) this device works. For some context, I used my Bloom as a nightstand in my bedroom nook, which is a fair distance from my kitchen and stove. After a couple of minutes of frying up some chicken on the stove, I went over and popped on the Bloom. Immediately, the ring went from green to purple and the machine got to work. I let it do its thing and I kid you not when I returned five minutes later, the ring was green (something I had expected as I myself could notice the air was noticeably better).
Not only was I impressed, but so was, well, everyone I had to show it to. Whenever someone came over, it seemed they immediately noticed it (I think the burgundy pre-filter I opted for helped) and commented on what a nice side table it was. But once I went over to tap the front of it and show them it was an air purifier, that’s when the “ooh-ing” and ‘ah-ing” started, followed by the same question: “Can you send me the link?”
What I Loved
- It’s quick, effective filtering: Easily the most impressive part about this air purifier is its power. Living in a small space, I value my clean air and the fact that it can make light work of even the smokiest cooking situations (and poor air-quality days) is enough for me to Stan it.
- It’s versatile design: It’s no secret that air purifiers have a rep for being, well, let’s just say unsightly. But because this device is so chic, I adore showing it off in my space. I also appreciate the fact that it works as a side table with some storage when I’m housing a plant in there.
- It’s sleep-friendly design: One of my biggest complaints with the last air purifier I had was that it had a power light that stayed on the entire night. Being that I’m pretty sensitive to even the smallest light source, it was a constant source of stress whenever I ran it overnight. Thankfully, the Bloom’s power light quickly fades after 20 seconds, a major win for me.
Good to Know
While the machine overall has a quiet operation, when on the highest setting I’d liken the noise level to that of a white noise machine, so take that into account when purchasing.
Also good to know: while the Bloom air purifier is available at numerous retailers, Dupray and Amazon are the only retailers where you’ll find the numerous pre-filter color options.
Should You Buy the Dupray Bloom Air Purifier?
The Dupray Bloom Air Purifier is an incredible find, but I would specifically recommend it if you’re looking for something that:
- Can quickly (and effectively) get the job done
- Isn’t an eyesore
- Can serve multiple functions
